  2. Thank you for choosing LifeTime!  LifeTime is the PIM that makes 
  3. the basic tasks of time management easier than any other.  Follow 
  4. the simple instructions below to install.  If you are already 
  5. using a version of LifeTime earlier than 2.00, keep in mind that
  6. the registration key file of that version does not work with this
  7. one, so it will be an evaluation copy until you order the
  8. registration.  Otherwise this version is completely compatible 
  9. with the earlier ones, and if you install it into your current
  10. LifeTime directory, all your existing database information will
  11. be preserved.

  13.       INSTALLING LIFETIME
  14. Just choose "Run" from the Program Manager File menu, and in the 
  15. box that comes up, type A:\SETUP.EXE.  This assumes you have the 
  16. LifeTime files on a diskette in your A:\ drive.  If they are 
  17. anywhere else instead, type in the path to them in place of the 
  18. "A:\".  Before you try to install, though, see the section on 
  19. VBRUN300.DLL.

  21.       DOS SHARE
  22. As a potentially multi-user product, LifeTime requires to have 
  23. DOS SHARE present for its database access.  SHARE is initiated in 
  24. the CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.  If you do not currently 
  25. run DOS SHARE, insert the following line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT 
  26. file before it calls Windows:

  28. C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE
  29.  
  30. This assumes that DOS is on that drive and directory.

  32.       VBRUN300.DLL
  33. LifeTime requires a special library of routines called 
  34. VBRUN300.DLL.  The SETUP program mentioned above must have this 
  35. file available also in order to run.

  37. If you obtained your LifeTime files directly from a bulletin 
  38. board, this file was probably not included among the ones you 
  39. downloaded for LifeTime.  This is because VBRUN300.DLL is a file 
  40. common to many Windows programs, and most of the people who 
  41. download LifeTime will already have this file.

  43. Virtually any source from which you obtained these LifeTime files 
  44. will also be able to provide you with VBRUN300.DLL at no charge.
  45. And if you got the files from a current user, it should already be
  46. on the disk.  To see if it is either there, or on your system, try 
  47. running the SETUP program as directed above.  If VBRUN300.DLL is 
  48. not present, a message will appear saying that the program cannot 
  49. be run.

  51. Once you have VBRUN300.DLL, you may place it on the 
  52. WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

  54.       MANUAL INSTALL
  55. If you experience a problem installing through the SETUP program, 
  56. you may install the files manually. In File Manager, create a new 
  57. directory called LIFETIME (you may use another name if you wish). 
  58. Then copy all the LifeTime files into it.

  60. You will also want to create the icon to represent LifeTime on 
  61. your desktop.  Follow the instructions in your Windows manual to 
  62. do this.

  64. If you want to make the common Windows routines in LifeTime
  65. available to other programs you might obtain, you can move them
  66. from the LifeTime directory to a place where they can be accessed
  67. by other programs as well as LifeTime.  In File Manager, move the 
  68. files VBRUN300.DLL and CMDIALOG.VBX into the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  69. directory.  You should check first, however, to make sure you 
  70. don't overlay a more recent copy of these files that may already 
  71. be there.  You can then delete them from your LifeTime directory, 
  72. as only one copy of them is needed.

  74.       INSTALLING THE LIFETIME UTILITIES
  75. Upon registering LifeTime, your Registration Key diskette will 
  76. contain the bonus Utility files in the \UTILS\ directory. Just 
  77. choose "Run" from the Program Manager File menu, and in the box 
  78. that comes up, type A:\UTILS\SETUPU.EXE.  This assumes you have 
  79. the LifeTime Utility files on a diskette in your A:\ drive.  If 
  80. they are anywhere else instead, type in the path to them in place 
  81. of the "A:\".

  83. NOTE: The INSTALL.EXE program may not operate correctly unless 
  84. the file VBRUN300.DLL, which came with your original LifeTime 
  85. program files, is moved to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

  87.       MANUAL INSTALL FOR UTILITIES
  88. If you experience a problem installing through the SETUP program, 
  89. you may install the files manually. In File Manager, select the 
  90. directory where your original LifeTime program files reside. Then 
  91. copy all the LifeTime Utility files into it, except SETUPU.EXE.

  93. The utility programs can be called from the File menu of 
  94. LifeTime, but you may optionally create icons to represent them. 
  95. Follow the instructions in your Windows manual to do this.
